Fire Protection Systems (Code Review, Analysis, and Certification)
A fire protection system consists of devices, equipment, and strategies that detect, control, and extinguish/suppress fires in order to protect lives, property, and the environment from the harmful effects of fire. These systems are an essential component of fire safety measures in buildings, industries, and other areas where fire hazards exist.
At Encompassed Engineering, LLC, we work on all aspects of Fire Protection Systems:
- Design: Sprinkler system, fire alarm & detection system, clean agent system, smoke control system, fire water supply.
- Code Review and Analysis: Evaluate the level of compliance to applicable codes/standards.
- Certification: Approving or stamping the design drawings and calculations.
Types of fire protection systems may include:
- Fire Suppression Systems: Fire suppression systems are designed to control or extinguish fires once they have been detected. Examples include automatic sprinkler systems, gaseous suppression systems (such as clean agents or carbon dioxide), foam suppression systems, and water mist systems. These systems release fire suppressants onto the fire or into the space to reduce the fire's heat, oxygen, or fuel supply.
- Fire Alarm Systems: Fire alarm systems are designed to initiate an alarm sequence upon detecting the presence of smoke/fire, and transmit an alarm signal to alert occupants and first responders. They may include smoke detectors, heat detectors, Ultraviolet (UV) or Infra-Red (IR) flame detectors, manual pull stations, and alarm notification devices such as horns, strobes, or intercom systems. These systems can be integrated with other fire protection systems for a coordinated response.
- Emergency Lighting and Exit Signage: During a fire or other emergencies that may result in power failure, emergency lighting systems provide illumination to help occupants safely evacuate the building. Exit signage with illuminated letters or symbols helps in guiding people towards the nearest exits.
- Fire Safety Education and Training: Fire protection systems also encompass fire safety education and training programs. These programs aim to educate occupants and employees about fire prevention, safe evacuation procedures, and the proper use of fire protection equipment. Training may include fire drills, evacuation plans, and specific instructions for using fire extinguishers or other firefighting equipment.
Each fire protection system is designed and tailored based on specific building codes, standards, and requirements to meet the fire safety needs of a particular facility.
